Seals

The museum's seal collection dating from the 17th century to the first half of the 20th century is noteworthy. This is a partial list of the different groups comprising the seal collection:

  • s of the Greek communities from the period of Turkish domination.
  • Patriarchal and monastery seals of the same period.
  • Seals of: famous klephts and armatoli, Greek princes/leaders of Moldavia, members of the Society of Friends, and distinguished Greeks of the Diaspora.
  • Freedom seals used on the declaration of the War of Independence of 1821.
  • Seals of the Provisional Administration of Greece (1822-1827), of the Hellenic Polity (1828-1831), of the period of King Otto, and of the periods which followed.
  • Seals of educational and cultural institutions and those of governmental authorities of Greek speaking peoples, from the 18th to the 19th century.
