The Pompeion was built in the 4th century BC at Kerameikos area between the Sacred Gate and the Dipylon. Spacious building (rectangular construction) with aN interior peristyle courtyard, used for the preparation of festival processions and various rooms at the north and west side. In the Pompieion were kept the sacral items used at the Panathenaic procession. Dated to the end of the 5th century B.C. The building was destroyed in 86 BC during the conquest and plundering of Athens by Sulla.
