In 15th-20th March in 1835 the first municipal elections took place, and doctor Anargyros Petrakis (1793-1835) was the first elected mayor of Athens. In 1835 the first theatre in Athens was founded, under the name “Skontzopoulou Theatre” that was made of wood was roofless. In 1840 the first stone-built theatre was built in Menandrou Street by the Italian V. Sansoni. It came into Yannis Mpoukoura’s property in 1844. The theatre was broken down in 1898.
